This vacation destination is a part of our first series of blog posts titled Pooches Polite.

This vacation will start with a two hour, thirty-mile ferry ride across the Nantucket Sound—a triangular area of the Atlantic Ocean, which is found off the coast of Massachusetts—to the captivating island of Nantucket. The ride will be a breezy adventure and your dog can sit right beside you on the ferry's deck.
You will pull into Nantucket Harbor with views that are postcard-perfect: white sailboats bobbing on the waves, cobblestone streets leading into town, and the scent of fresh lobster rolls drifting through the air. Luie Boone is desperately in need of one of them tasty lobster rolls.
The island is 14 miles long and 3.5 miles wide with over 80 miles of beach. This means there is no shortage of places to walk along the surf with your pooch! Your pup can dash through the shallow waves, chasing seagulls and splashing around with pure joy, their tail wagging wildly as the cool ocean breeze ruffles their fur.
Nantucket offers serene trails through windswept dunes, lush moors, and quiet coastal paths, where your best friend can trot happily beside you. It also boasts numerous dog-friendly dining spots, featuring outdoor patios, where you and your four-legged friend can dine together. Several local shops even go the extra mile by providing treats and water bowls for visiting dogs. Luie Boone sure hopes they got some snacks and trinkets for him to check out.
Whether you're playing in the sand, hiking, or exploring the town, Nantucket has something for everyone—including Fido!

What does Luie Boone think of this rental? He woofed:
This beachfront vacation smells like adventure to me! There will be warm sand beneath my paws, a salty breeze ruffling my fur, and the big, blue ocean stretching out as far as my eyes can see—what more could a dog ask for? Unlimited treats, maybe? But I guess this will do. My humans will have the best spot to lounge when outside in funny-looking beach chairs. I, personally, will prefer rolling in the sun by the shore or digging holes (for important dog reasons, of course; don't ask any questions). Inside, the vacation rental will be cool and comfy, thanks to something they call air conditioning. And the deck? That’s my spot to sprawl out on and keep watch for seagulls. Ugh, seagulls. And the best part of all, there’s so much to do! My humans can splash around with all sorts of water toys, and I will get to chase the waves. They always seem to run away, but I will keep trying. Whether I’m dashing along the shore, sniffing out new adventures, or snoozing in the sunshine, this vacation spot is a treat-filled dream!

Luie Boone's Pet Peeve about
Nantucket, Massachusetts
There's just so much to love about this vacation destination, but there's one thing that's got Luie Boone's leash in a twist. He woofed:
There are a lot of things dogs don’t like: vacuums, thunderstorms, and that one squirrel! But on Nantucket, there’s something that gets every pup’s nose twitching—the infamous Grey Lady. The Grey Lady is both the nickname for Nantucket (thanks to its foggy mornings) and the name of a ghost said to haunt the island. And while the fog might just make your dog's fur a bit frizzy, the ghost? Well, that’s another story! The Grey Lady—believed to be the spirit of a woman waiting for her lost love at sea—has been known to give off vibes that make every pup whimper and hide under the bed. Dogs crave connection—wags, nuzzles, belly rubs—while the Grey Lady offers zero ear scratches, which is frankly a dealbreaker. Add in that Nantucket’s fog smells like seaweed, secrets, and old shipwrecks—it’s pure sensory chaos for any dog. So, the next time your dog starts howling at the fog rolling in, don’t scold them. They’re just trying to protect you from the Grey Lady!
