I have never been on a vacation like this with my humans, but they kept talking about the lake house near Lake Geneva as if I would have been right there with them. They said it sat at the quiet end of Lake Como, tucked away on a private road, peaceful and full of good smells and calm water. Inside, there would have been big windows looking out over the lake, a warm fireplace for evenings, and a kitchen where everyone stayed close together. The deck would have been the best part—sunsets, grilling, and a place where I would have been included in everything. Outside, it sounded like a whole world waiting. A private pier, shoreline to explore, boats for the water, and trails nose full of new scents. Birds would have visited often, especially at the feeding window, and ducks would have drifted across the lake like they owned the place. I would have brought Quackers, my stuffed duck. He was soft, well-loved, and always ready for naps, deck lounging, and important duck-watching duties. I never made it to that vacation with them, but I liked to think about it anyway—being together, moving slowly through quiet days by the water, just a dog, his stuffed duck and his humans.

A short and easy 0.8-mile loop trail is perfect for a quick 15-minute stroll with Fido. Along the trail, visitors will find plaques identifying local plant and animal species, adding an educational touch to the experience.

Linn Nature Park
Linn Nature Park is a scenic dog-friendly destination where visitors can enjoy peaceful walks through protected Wisconsin prairie and wetland habitat.
The Nature Park was first purchased in 1999 by the Geneva Lakes Conservancy. With the help of a donation from a local resident, the Town later acquired the property from the Conservancy and placed it under easement protection to preserve its natural beauty.
Today, the park features two miles of marked trails stretching across 154 gently rolling acres filled with tall grass prairie, wetlands, and savannah habitat. Hiking with your dog is a great way to experience the open landscape and abundant wildlife found throughout the preserve.
The park is also home to many grassland birds, including Henslow’s Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Bobolink, and Eastern Meadowlark.
Ongoing conservation work helps maintain the health of the prairie ecosystem. Invasive plant species such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, and box elder are continually removed, while controlled prescription burns are used to restore nutrients to the soil and support native plant growth.
In 2008, Linn received recognition from the United States Environmental Protection Agency for its efforts restoring habitat for Wisconsin birds and protecting the environment, making the park both a beautiful recreational space and an important conservation success story.

There's just so much to love about this vacation destination, but there's one thing that would have put Luie Boone's leash in a twist and he would have woofed:
My humans had a vacation planned to Lake Geneva, though none of us had been there yet. I had heard plenty about it from dogs at the park while our humans stood around talking instead of throwing tennis balls. The dogs described Lake Geneva as a place full of lake breezes, interesting smells, and walking paths that seemed made for zoomies. One dog said humans spent a lot of time looking at big houses and calling it “sightseeing” while ignoring perfectly good fetch opportunities. Another insisted the grassy areas by the water were ideal for running at full speed, though she was frustrated that her humans kept stopping to take pictures instead of throwing something.
A third dog was mostly interested in the outdoor restaurants and the possibility of dropped food under the tables. From everything I heard, Lake Geneva sounded like the perfect vacation for a dog—full of new scents, squirrels, shoreline adventures, and plenty of places to explore with the people you love. Sadly, I never got the chance to see it for myself, but I always suspected the dogs were right. The only thing Lake Geneva seemed to be missing was humans who understood that every beautiful view is improved by a tennis ball flying through it.
