If your dog loves water like our boy Luie Boone loves water—and he loves water, then the Finger Lakes of New York is the perfect vacation destination for you!

The Finger Lakes are a pattern of 11 long and narrow lakes that look like a giant hand went for a swim! Seriously, who wouldn’t want a vacation spot where the lakes are basically giving you a thumbs up?

It consists of the following eleven lakes: Canadice, Canandaigua, Cayuga, Conesus, Hemlock, HoneoyeKeukaOtiscoOwascoSeneca and Skaneatele. Each of these lakes range from 40 miles in length and up to 618 feet in depth.

Visitors and their furry friends can flock to the region to relax, unwind, and chill by the water. Many take their canine companions on an adventurous trek to see some of the area’s magnificent waterfalls. Luie Boone loves a good waterfall. He wonders how loud he can howl underneath it!

The best time to visit the Finger Lakes is from late spring to early fall, when the weather is warm enough for pooch-friendly outdoor seating areas to be open.

The charming small-town atmosphere of Canandaigua, Geneva, Ithaca, Skaneateles, Penn Yan, Hammondsport, Seneca Falls, Naples, Corning, and Watkins Glen, combined with stunning natural beauty, makes the Finger Lakes a delightful destination. There are plenty of pup-friendly spots in these towns for you and your dog to explore and enjoy!

What does Luie Boone think of this rental? He woofed:

I am a Labrador Retriever. My kind is known for loving water, so I know that I'm going to love it when we vacation at the Finger Lakes of New York! There are 11 different lakes there, which me and my paw-rents can visit and explore. The vacation home that we will be staying at is located at one of these lakesKeuka Lake. This lake is unusual, because it is Y-shaped, contrasting to the long and narrow shape of the ten other Finger Lakes. The lake does happen to be one of the cleanest freshwater lakes in the world. Because of its shallow waters, it is also one of the warmer Finger Lakes. This makes it an ideal place for swimming, which works great for me! Upon arrival to the rental, I will receive a doggy bag with a tennis ball from the property owners. How sweet! The rental has a large dock, which is where we'll put that tennis ball to good use. I'll be doing cannon-balls of that dock, so watch out everyone for the big splash!

Luie Boone's Pet Peeve about

The Finger Lakes of New York

There's just so much to love about this vacation destination, but there's one thing that's got Luie Boone's leash in a twist. He woofed:

There is a legend behind the 11 Finger Lakes. A Native American legend tells the story of a Great Spirit looking down favorably on the region and offering his blessing by placing his fingers upon the land. His finger impressions left behind then filled with water, which formed the Finger Lakes. In a perfect world, I think there should be 10 Finger Lakes! But, a long time ago, when superstition played a larger role in life than it does today, I think someone accidentally ordered a lake on the side for good luck! Maybe it was the Great Spirit's way of saying, "One more lake, and you'll have enough for a decent-sized water balloon fight!"
