If you're dreaming of a beach getaway where your dog is not just tolerated, but is truly welcomed, then Edisto Island, South Carolina, is the perfect destination for you. With its unspoiled coastline, thick forest canopy, and laid-back lifestyle, this low-country hideaway is a dream destination for you and your furry friend.

Edisto Island is an extra-special place, because its beach allows fun for dogs year-round. During the peak season, which is May 1st to October 31st, leashes are required. Pet waste stations are conveniently located at each of the 37 beach access points, which ensures a clean environment for all beachgoers.

After October 31st, dogs are allowed on the beach without a leash! Granted, owners are still required to have their dog under vocal command. If your dog doesn’t know "sit" and "stay" or the ever-important command of “leave it,” which is especially useful when canines come upon nose-assaulting items washed up on the beach, then make sure you still use a leash with your pooch.

Edisto Island is a doggone great getaway for your pup, but there are a few rules you must follow to keep it fun and respectful. First up: Stay off the dunes and sea oats. They're beautiful and fragile, so paws (and feet) must stay off to protect them. Second: Don’t forget the basics. Make sure you always pick up after your dog, so there is no excuse for surprise landmines. Lastly: Steer clear of Loggerhead turtle nests. They’re fascinating for curious noses, but off-limits. Be sure to keep your dog's leash close by, as even the best-behaved hound can’t resist a sniffable adventure. Just ask Luie Boone about some of the sniffable adventures he's gotten up to without permission.

So if sandy paws, salty breezes, and wagging tails sound like your kind of vacation, Edisto Island is calling. Just follow the rules, respect the wildlife, and let the tail-wagging memories begin!

What does Luie Boone think of this rental? He woofed:

I guess this rental is one of Edisto’s best! I mean, tail-wagging best! This place got a fresh new look, with its shiny floors, comfy spots, and not a single weird smell! It is a big ole 4 bedroom home that’s lifted up. That means it's great for catching those ocean breezes and spotting squirrels from on the deck. There is private off-street parking, so no worries about traffic while I’m sniffin’ around, and guess what? The house is right on the ocean. Front row to the waves! The back deck will be my new favorite nap spot. You’ll find me soaking up the sun and sniffing the fresh seaside air. There is a charcoal grill (yum, smells like burgers), an outdoor shower (not for me, though, thanks), a full kitchen inside (hello dropped food!), high-speed Wi-Fi (for streaming dog videos, maybe?), and even a washer and dryer (that'll make sure my blanket stays fresh). The living room is huge and cozy with lots of comfy spots to flop down. There are two bathrooms (humans love those), and the beds? One king, one queen, two fulls, and two twins! Basically, a royal doggy sleepover waiting to happen. Best part? Dogs like me are welcome!  I can already smell the salty air! So... what are we waiting for? Let's go!

Luie Boone's Pet Peeve about

Edisto Island, South Carolina

There's just so much to love about this vacation destination, but there's one thing that's got Luie Boone's leash in a twist. He woofed:

Listen up, pups! Edisto Island is beautiful, with sandy beaches to dig your paws into, trails to sniff with your snout, and breezes to chase. It’s doggie heaven! But it’s also full of marshes, lagoons, and ponds, which means one thing: Gators. Now, not my cousin Gator—he’s a goofy lab, just like me, who loves belly rubs and peanut butter. I’m talkin’ about real gators. The ones who don’t growl or bark. They just lie there, looking like logs… with their scary, yellow eyes. And here’s the trick: Logs don’t blink, but gators do, right before they lunge at you. And they’re fast. Not “zoomies in the yard” fast, but faster. They won’t give you a warning, and they won't back down. So be smart. Stay leashed near the water, don’t sniff too close to the edge, and never assume a pond is empty. Respect the gators, and you’ll stay safe to explore another day.
