This vacation destination is a part of our third series of blog posts titled Rover Ready.

Luie Boone overheard his hoomans planning a vacation to See-Bagel Lake, Maine, and he just couldn't believe it. Bagels? He loves a good bagel, especially one lathered with peanut butter and topped with banana slices. Unfortunately, his doggy daydreams about See-Bagel Lake were rudely interrupted when one of his hoomans told him that they were actually planning a vacation to Sebago Lake, Maine. He wasn't upset for long, though, especially after he learned that Sebago Lake, Maine, is the ultimate destination for a dog-friendly vacation. His hoomans said it's where outdoor adventure meets small-town charm, and that it's all set against the backdrop of one of New England’s most stunning freshwater lakes!
Sebago Lake is surrounded by welcoming towns like Casco, Naples, Raymond, Sebago, Standish, Windham, and the unique Frye Island. As such, there is no shortage of opportunities for you and your furry friend to roam, relax, and reconnect with nature. At the heart of it all is Sebago Lake itself. This lake is a sparkling, deep-water haven. It's perfect for swimming, paddling, and boating. Its shores are lined with quiet coves, shady forest trails, and sandy beaches—many of which are dog-friendly. Be sure to pay attention to leash rules for your pup.
An absolute must-visit is Sebago Lake State Park, which is located between the towns of Casco and Naples. With miles of hiking trails, two expansive beaches, and plenty of picnic spots, this state park is an ideal setting for a day of outdoor fun with your pup. Nearby dog-friendly areas, such as Witch Cove and Naples Beach, are especially welcoming during off-peak hours.
The town of Casco is home to the beloved Point Sebago Resort. This is a pet-welcoming retreat, and it offers everything from cabin rentals and RV sites to glamping tents! Luie Boone loves the outdoors, but he wouldn't mind relaxing in a bougie tent without all the obnoxious bugs bothering him. With a marina, golf course, and family-friendly beach, this resort makes a perfect home-vacation-base for travelers who want both comfort and convenience—all with dog-friendly amenities close at hand.
Nearby, the town of Naples brings a vibrant lakeside vibe with its collection of waterfront restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream stands. Luie Boone is slobbering just at the thought of a cold, vanilla scoop of ice cream. He can't promise his hoomans that he won't stop at every single stand. Many of the local eateries feature outdoor patios where dogs are welcome, so you can enjoy a relaxing meal with your pup by your side. During the meal, you can listen to the sounds of live music and watch the sight of boats cruising by!
On the quieter eastern side of the lake, the towns of Raymond and Windham offer peaceful neighborhoods and lakefront rentals. These are great spots for travelers seeking a tranquil, pet-friendly escape. Many properties here provide private water access and nearby wooded trails, which make it easy to enjoy the natural surroundings with your dog.
To the south, the town of Standish and the surrounding countryside are home to sections of the Sebago to the Sea Trail. This is a scenic path that stretches all the way to Portland! All Luie Boone knows about Portland is the Trailblazers. And, no, he's not talking about the old green Chevy Trailblazer that he used to sit co-pilot in with his hooman dad, but the Portland Trailblazers (Luie Boone is a big basketball fan. Go Bucks!). Anyhow, the Sebago to the Sea Trail is a must-see spot. Whether you're in the mood for a morning hike or an afternoon stroll, this trail offers wooded scenery, river views, and shaded rest spots.
One of Sebago Lake's hidden treasures is Frye Island. This island is accessible by a short ferry ride from Raymond Neck. It is a golf-cart-only island, known as a quiet retreat with its 22 miles of dirt roads, 12 public beaches, and acres of dense woods to explore. While dogs are welcome on the island and in many rental homes, please be sure to note that beach hours for dogs are limited. Dogs are only allowed on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Still, it can be a peaceful paradise for both pets and their people. Even Frye’s Leap Café—the island’s sole restaurant—offers dog-friendly outdoor seating during the warmer months.
Luie Boone reckons that a perfect day in Sebago Lake might start with a tasty coffee in Windham and a morning hike along the Sebago to the Sea Trail, followed by an afternoon paddleboard session in Naples or Casco. It will all end with dinner on a dog-friendly patio, as the sun sets over the lake and Luie Boone steals some tasty hooman food.
However, if you're staying on Frye Island, Luie Boone reckons that your day could include a peaceful forest walk, a morning swim, a lazy loop around the island in a golf cart, and then a quiet evening sipping drinks by the water.
Whichever town you choose—Casco, Naples, Raymond, Sebago, Standish, Windham, or Frye Island—Sebago Lake offers the perfect setting for a dog-friendly escape that blends adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable lakeside beauty.

What does Luie Boone think of this rental? He woofed:
My hoomans have been talking about a vacation to a rental called SLCARL on Sebago Lake, Maine. They said there's a big, sandy beach just for us, calm water to splash around (and cannonball into), and even a rowboat that I might get to catch a ride on. I'm not really sure the technicalities of how boating works, but I know that I'm ready to be the captain of that vessel. I'll need a life jacket and captain's hat to match. The house itself sounds amazing. There are four bedrooms— which means lots of nap spots to sniff out—a big deck for meals with the hoomans, and a grill. You all know what a grill means. It means burgers, hot dogs, steaks, and s'mores... and I'm definitely getting a bite of each. No chocolate on my s'more, of course! On top of all that good stuff, I heard that there are trails, trees, and so, so, so many smells to sniff. It's important to point out that one path to the dock is a little rough. However, no need to worry! There's a smoother one down to the beach. Oh, also, there's this $100 pet fee that my hoomans have to pay. They know the fee is worth it (and reasonable) to have me there with them. Although we haven't been there yet, something tells me this spot is going to be bone-a-fide amazing!

Luie Boone's Pet Peeve about
Sebago Lake, Maine
There's just so much to love about this vacation destination, but there's one thing that's got Luie Boone's leash in a twist. He woofed:
Luie Boone knows exactly what's waiting for him and his hoomans in Lake Sebago, Maine: Jet Skis. His hoomans just won't stop talking about them. He's seen his hoomans scrolling through rental websites, comparing prices, and reading reviews like it's their full-time job. One site claimed that there can be over 50(!) jet skis out on Sebago Lake during a busy weekend. That's not a lake... that's a turbo-charged stampede. Even the ads for the lake say things like: "Sebago is perfect for high-speed fun." In dog-speak, that means chaos is coming. I am familiar with jet skis, though. I know their sound and have seen them zip across the water at my Aunt Lori and Uncle Glenn's cottage on the lake in Wisconsin. I just don't want my tennis ball to get swept away by a rogue, jet-ski-fuled tsunami. Jet skis don't move like boats or ducks; they zigzag like squirrels on jet fuel. And it's never just one. It always seems to be a whole pack. But, I don't need to worry, because I'll have my pack with me!
