This travel spot is featured in our fifth blog series, Bowwows Belong.

Luie Boone says grab your leash! Why? Well, because Miami Beach’s glittering Art Deco streets and soft sands promise memorable, barking fun.

Did you know vacationing in Miami Beach offers a unique blend of relaxation, style, and rich history? In the early 1900s, the area transformed from a quiet barrier island into a glamorous resort destination, reaching its peak during the 1920s and 1930s. Many of the iconic Art Deco buildings seen there today were constructed during this era, showcasing pastel colors, geometric patterns, curved corners, and neon lighting that captured the spirit of the time. Carefully preserved along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue, these historic structures help define Miami Beach’s distinctive character. Paired with soft white sand, clear blue waters, ocean breezes, and a lively cultural scene, the city offers visitors a destination where history and modern coastal living come together effortlessly.

Beyond its architecture, Miami Beach has long been a cultural crossroads shaped by Caribbean, Latin American, and American influences. This vibrant mix is reflected in its music, cuisine, festivals, and laid-back outdoor lifestyle. From historic hotels that once hosted celebrities to today’s bustling beachfront cafés and nightlife, Miami Beach continues to evolve while honoring its past—creating an atmosphere that feels both international and deeply rooted.

What makes this destination even more appealing is that a tropical getaway doesn’t mean leaving your four-legged family member behind. Miami Beach has become one of the most dog-friendly coastal cities in the U.S., offering sunny promenades, pet-friendly hotels, outdoor dining, and a welcoming attitude toward furry companions. Whether you’re planning a relaxing escape or an activity-filled weekend, the city makes it easy to experience it all with your dog by your side.

The outdoor culture is a big part of why Miami Beach works so well for pet travelers. Early-morning strolls along palm-lined paths, sunset walks by the water, and shaded neighborhood streets create the perfect environment for dogs and their owners. You’ll often spot water bowls outside storefronts, restaurant staff greeting dogs first, and locals eager to chat and share pet stories, making the experience feel genuinely inclusive.

Dining with your dog in Miami Beach is equally enjoyable. Many restaurants feature pet-friendly patios, making meals feel relaxed and social rather than restrictive. Yardbird Southern Table & Bar offers outdoor seating where dogs can lounge comfortably while owners enjoy Southern comfort food. Call Me Gaby provides a charming Italian atmosphere with a lush terrace ideal for warm evenings, while Shake Shack on Lincoln Road offers casual dining and even dog treats—something Luie Boone will surely bark about later. Here, dining with your dog feels like part of the local culture, not an exception.

To make the most of your stay, a little planning goes a long way. Bringing a collapsible water bowl and keeping your pup hydrated is essential, especially during the warmer parts of the day. Early mornings and evenings are ideal for longer walks, while midday is best spent resting in the shade or back at your hotel or rental. Since most public spaces require leashes, having one on hand ensures smooth and stress-free outings.

A Miami Beach vacation becomes even more special when your dog is part of the experience. From sunrise walks along South Beach to oceanfront coffee breaks, candlelit patio dinners, and quiet moments listening to the waves, the memories you create together will last long after the trip ends.

Miami Beach proves that paradise is even better when shared, especially with your furry best friend.

What does Luie Boone think of this rental? He woofed:

My hoomans planned a vacation, and they picked Private Miami Oasis in Miami Beach, Florida. From what I have overheard, this place is going to be completely paw-some. There is a big tropical backyard for zoomies, comfy loungers for naps, and dog beds and bowls waiting just for me. I am not allowed in the heated pool, but that is fine. I will be on lifeguard duty from the sidelines while my hoomans splash around. Inside, there are four themed bedrooms, which means I will be rotating naps so every room feels equally loved. There is also a giant couch that clearly belongs to me at night. What really made my tail wag was hearing how kind the hosts were to another dog who needed a cool place during a heat wave. Knowing pups are treated so well makes me feel very safe. We are not there yet, but I can already imagine it. Sun, shade, snacks, snuggles, and serious relaxation. Vacation has not started, but my tail definitely has.

Paws Venture Here

Luie Boone sniffed out and dug up these local gems for you to check out while vacationing in Miami Beach, Florida!

Duck Tours South Beach

Duck Tours South Beach offers tours on big amphibious buses, which drive on land and splash right into the water. The adventure starts in Miami’s South Beach with cool facts about colorful Art Deco buildings, then it's straight into Biscayne Bay. From there, you'll get a nose-level view of the fancy homes on Star Island, where the rich and famous live. Duck Tours South Beach last about 90 minutes. The best part? Pups ride for free. My hoomans say that's a good deal.

Oleta River State Park

Oleta River State Park is a paw-some natural escape filled with shady hardwood hammocks, mangroves, and the Oleta River flowing right through the middle. It's Florida’s largest urban state park, which means tons of space for sniffing, strolling, and quality hooman-pup bonding. Just 30 minutes from downtown Miami, it offers miles of scenic trails and peaceful water views that feel far from the city. It's the perfect place for hoomans and pups to trade city noise for peaceful trails. Luie Boone already has his eye on the river and would very much like to splash in it.

Haulover Park

Haulover Park is a tail-wagging favorite, thanks to its bark park and official dog-friendly beach! The bark park near the south picnic area has two fenced sections. One is for the small pups under 35 pounds, while the other one is for the big woofers. There's also shade, picnic tables, water fountains, and cleanup stations. The dog beach lets pups play off leash between lifeguard towers #2 and #3, with access from parking lots #3 and #4. Outside that beach zone, leashes are required, but inside it's pure sandy zoomie heaven.

North Beach Oceanside Park

North Beach Oceanside Park is a total paw-ty spot with 28 acres of space to explore. It has two fully fenced dog parks. Like Haulover Park, one is for the small pups, while the other is for the big woofers. There's also a designated dog beach where fur babies can dig, zoom, and splash off leash. There are sidewalk-style paths, picnic tables, and restrooms for hoomans. Plus, the purple-and-orange lifeguard tower nearby makes it easy to spot and adds a little Miami flair. Basically, it is sun, sand, and serious tail wagging all in one place.

Dog Bar

Dog Bar, Miami’s original pet boutique, is way more than a regular pet store. It is a paw-some place focused on keeping dogs healthy and feeling their best, with high-quality natural dog food and homeopathic supplements for things like itchy skin, sensitive tummies, and immune support. They also have bowls, collars, leashes, toys, and all the important dog essentials.  Luie Boone fully plans to leave with a brand-new outfit or two, clearly taking after his hooman sister Rachel, who also goes shopping “just to look” and somehow always comes home with bags.

Lummus Park Beachwalk

Lummus Park is a pup-friendly stretch of South Beach, which runs about ten blocks and is way less crowded than the main beach scene. You can stroll the paved Beachwalk that runs alongside the sand, perfect for easy walks and serious people watching. Along the way, you'll pass fancy oceanfront hotels, like the Loews Miami Beach Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton. You might even spot sea turtles, which is very cool, but pups should admire them from a polite distance and let the turtles do their thing. At least, that's what Luie Boone's turtle, Spike, says.

Dogs & Cats Walkway & Sculpture Gardens at Maurice A. Ferré Park

Just 17 minutes and about 5 miles from Miami Beach, the Dogs & Cats Walkway & Sculpture Gardens at Maurice A. Ferré Park is a tail-wagging must-see. This dog-friendly outdoor art exhibit features 52 giant aluminum sculptures, 26 dogs and 26 cats, all painted by local artists. It is colorful, creative, and all about celebrating and protecting our four-legged best friends, which feels like something Luie Boone definitely supports. Luie Boone will be snapping pictures in front of every sculpture. He wonders if he'll find one that looks like him, or even one that looks like his kitty brother, Tobi!

Shake Shack

As promised, Luie Boone would like to bark about a very important restaurant. Shake Shack serves up burgers, fries, hot dogs, ice cream, custard, plus beer and wine for the hoomans, which basically means everyone leaves happy and full. Best of all, dogs are welcome to join in on the fun. Just do not forget to order your pup the famous Pooch-ini, a vanilla custard treat drizzled with peanut butter sauce and topped with crunchy biscuits, because sharing snacks is what good hoomans do.

Luie Boone's Pet Peeve about

Miami Beach, Florida

There's just so much to love about this vacation destination, but there's one thing that's got Luie Boone's leash in a twist. He woofed:

My hoomans are taking me on vacation to Miami Beach, and at first I was very excited. Sand between my paws, waves to bark at, seagulls to supervise, and maybe a dropped french fry or two. Then, I overheard a not-so-fun word: rip tide. Apparently, it's like an invisible ocean vacuum that can pull you away from shore even if you are paddling with all four paws. Hard pass. Dogs like me can get into trouble because we charge straight into the water, chase birds or sticks, and sometimes panic if our hoomans panic. So, I have made some very responsible beach rules. I will stick to shallow, calm water; stay close to my hoomans; and take plenty of breaks for snacks, shade, and water. No chasing waves way out there. If a rip tide does happen, the smart move is to stay calm and paddle sideways until you are out of the current. And if my hoomans get pulled in, I will stay safely on shore and bark loudly for help instead of jumping in after them. Miami Beach still sounds paw-some, but rip tides are a no for me. I am a smart, cautious beach dog now, and I am ready for vacation.
